Financial Assistance Policy

 

Mount Vernon Hospital in accordance with its mission, strives to provide high-quality, affordable and accessible healthcare to the communities it serves. The Hill-Burton Charity Care program is available at Mount Vernon Hospital to all eligible patients who are unable to pay for hospital services. If you are found ineligible for the Hill-Burton Charity Care program, MVH offers financial assistance to individuals who are unable to pay in full for their healthcare and do not qualify for Medicaid or other insurance programs.  Financial assistance is based on a patient’s household income, family size and consideration may also be given to an individual’s assets.

Hospital Charges and Payments

Your daily rate includes general Hospital services, such as room, meals, nursing care, routine medical equipment, and supplies. It does not include X-Rays, laboratory tests, use of the operating room, blood transfusions, discharge medications, private duty nurses, and other special services.

All charges will be itemized on your bill. If you have any questions, call the credit office where a representative will be happy to explain the charges. Extension 6027.

Some charges may not appear on your hospital bill at the time of your discharge. As soon as all hospital charges and all insurance allowances have been applied, you can expect to receive your final bill.

The professional fees of your private physician, surgeon, anesthesiologist, radiologist, or consultant are a matter of agreement between you and the doctors.

 

Insurance 

Medicare, Blue Cross, Medicaid and various other hospital plans provide you with varying degrees of financial coverage for the payment of your hospital bill. Some insurance limit the number of days and/or the amount of coverage under the terms of the policy. Most plans specifically disallow charges for private duty nurses, private room accommodations, and personal items, such as telephone, television etc. We request payment when the bill is rendered. Payment can be made by a family member at the cashier’s office or you can arrange to pay in your by telephoning the credit office.

If your insurance carrier is other that Blue Cross, Medicare, we request that you assign the benefits to us. This avoids you having to pay your bill in full and then collect from your insurance.

 

Deposit 

A deposit is required on admission for the portion for your hospital bill not recovered by your insurance, such as Medicare deductibles, private room differential and telephone service. The amount of this deposit is based on the estimated length of your stay and your accommodation. Any portion of deposit paid towards private room differential or telephone service not used by discharge will be refunded at the cashier’s window between 8 am – 4 pm Monday – Friday if deposit was made in cash. Refunds of deposit paid by check will be sent to you in the mail after discharge.

 

Credit Cards

We will accept, upon our verification, payment of any portion of your hospital bill. Most major credit cards accepted.
